Some
wonder about the advantages and power of the written, or in our world,
the typed word. They say pictures are worth one thousand words, but
is that really the case in the adult industry? There are some aspects
to text, copy, erotic or stories (whatever you want to call it) that
pictures just cannot do.
Ok,
so you've bought a whole slew of pictures. What if your surfer doesn't
think the subject in the sets is attractive? They leave. By using
erotic stories, the woman in the story is made up by them. The ultimate
woman/man, whatever that might be. From the shape of their body to
the way they moan their name. They're gorgeous, in very different
ways, to every one that enters your site.
What
if they have a slow connection? They leave. Using a lot of pictures
can slow down the surfer, making them wait for the page to load. They
are looking to 'have a good time' and they're not getting what they
wanted while waiting for the images to load. Text takes a great deal
less time to load and almost instantly they have a spicy scene at
their fingertips. Another clever idea is to use a few pictures with
a story or have a hot banner to a sponsor with a really obviously
ready subject hovering over them as they read and work their imaginations.
Erotica
tends to hold the surfer to the site longer than pictures do. How
long does it take you to look at a set of ten pictures? Not long at
all. And most of the time there is no lead up to the 'action'. With
stories, you can bait them by using their imagination. They play the
scene out in their head. And of course since it's just perfect for
them, they return. Erotica fans are just as loyal as other niche fans.
As long as you keep up your site, adding new stories on a regular
basis, you're pretty straight. And we all know it's all about member
retention!
Another
aspect of erotica is keywords. Using text on a page can grant you
higher placement in the search engines if used correctly. And of course
the higher your ranking in the surfer used search engines, the more
members you potentially have. The more you freshen up your content,
the higher your member retention will be.
What
are the different ways to use the erotica you are by now, thinking
of buying? Just as the subjects in the stories themselves are only
limited to the readers imagination, so to are the number of ways to
use text on your sites to benefit you. It doesn't have to be a full
story. You can use part of one, get their attention and imagination
running, and then lead them into your site for the rest of it. Bios
are another added bonus that your members will love. It adds depth
to the subjects they are admiring. Sales text or text banners are
both very simple but extremely effective way to get your potential
member to join up. As I mentioned before, you can use them around
pictures. Most erotic story content providers do custom stories and
if they are good, they can write a story around a set of pictures
you send them.
Ah
I said custom. What's that you ask. Most people know and some are
lost when it comes to the terms, exclusive, custom and general 'shelf
inventory'. I'll break it down quickly. Exclusive, or custom content
means that the content is only for your use. Do with it what you may.
Some providers offer it up for six months and some for lifetime and
some do it per clients request i.e. 3 months. Now for a timed exclusive
story you would pay a bit less than life time rights, simply because
after a while the content provider can resell that same content. Speaking
of reselling that brings us to what I refer to as 'shelf inventory'
or 'anyone who wants it can buy it' content. And that's basically
what it is. Whoever wants to buy the stories can do so. These are
always much cheaper than its distant cousin Exclusive. But that's
about the only perk. Other webmasters can buy them as well, meaning
that your member might have seen the same stories elsewhere and completely
lose interest in your baby that you've worked so hard on. Another
draw back is that you cannot alter them in anyway, unless of course
you ask and even then that is only a possibility.
The
simplicity and strength of (what was once just thought of as filler)
words is spreading. From full-fledged pay sites to free sites and
AVS sites to sponsors, Resource sites to Ezines, they have all begun
to realize the true power of the written word. The saying the pen
is mightier than the sword has been changed to the text is mightier
than the image (in it's own little way.)
